Once we had decided to travel the harder decision was when to go and which way we would take which has brought a few headaches to us and the plan has changed two or three times and probably will some more, but I think that is the beauty of it all in that you can go to so many places and so many different routes to take along the way. That's the exciting thing about a trip like this, the unpredictability and freeness you have.
We had been umming and arghhing for a while about two set off times, it was either going to be October of this year or March of next. We finally decided that 1st of March 2014 would be our take off, there is a few reasons for that 1. baby no2 will be 8 months old by then which we feel is a much better age then 3 months. 2. I am a mad baseball fan and have tickets for the mlb game in Sydney on the 22 of march which would give us a perfect start to our holiday, and 3. money, another 5 months of savings will be very helpful and allows us to travel a bit longer before we have to think about working.
So as we are setting off from Gippsland Victoria we will be taking the anti-clockwise direction, taking in the east coast of Australia first all the way to the northernmost part of Australia being cape York, then onto Darwin which we hope to be at by late June to early July.
The last time we travelled we spent almost 3 months in Darwin and it was probably the most memorable part of the trip, it was such an interesting place and I am really keen to spend a month or two there again this time around and we thought depending on our budgeting that we may need to get some work for a little while.
From there our plan gets a little more fuzzy as we figure we will asses things in Darwin and adjust if need be, but the plan after Darwin is to go west to do the Kimberly, Pilbara and Gibb river road(not necessarily in that order). After that at this stage is a mystery but when we plan further I will post about it.
