Once we had decided to travel the harder decision was when to go and which way we would take which has brought a few headaches to us and the plan has changed two or three times and probably will some more, but I think that is the beauty of it all in that you can go to so many places and so many different routes to take along the way. That's the exciting thing about a trip like this, the unpredictability and freeness you have.
We had been umming and arghhing for a while about two set off times, it was either going to be October of this year or March of next. We finally decided that 1st of March 2014 would be our take off, there is a few reasons for that 1. baby no2 will be 8 months old by then which we feel is a much better age then 3 months. 2. I am a mad baseball fan and have tickets for the mlb game in Sydney on the 22 of march which would give us a perfect start to our holiday, and 3. money, another 5 months of savings will be very helpful and allows us to travel a bit longer before we have to think about working.
So as we are setting off from Gippsland Victoria we will be taking the anti-clockwise direction, taking in the east coast of Australia first all the way to the northernmost part of Australia being cape York, then onto Darwin which we hope to be at by late June to early July.
The last time we travelled we spent almost 3 months in Darwin and it was probably the most memorable part of the trip, it was such an interesting place and I am really keen to spend a month or two there again this time around and we thought depending on our budgeting that we may need to get some work for a little while.
From there our plan gets a little more fuzzy as we figure we will asses things in Darwin and adjust if need be, but the plan after Darwin is to go west to do the Kimberly, Pilbara and Gibb river road(not necessarily in that order). After that at this stage is a mystery but when we plan further I will post about it.
Hey were the Hornstra's, Luke and Laura + our children Makenzie and new arrival Ryder. We love camping and travelling and have decided to take the plunge and do the Big Lap. We will be leaving on the 1st of January 2014 and I will be looking forward to update people on our preparation and trip.

The Reason for Travelling
Do you ever feel like sometimes your just going through the motions, that your just letting life just meander on and you just wish for that spark to get you going again. That's the way we feel occasionally and the best way we find to reignite that spark is by travelling. Whilst a lot of our friends have gone over to Europe, Asia or America to scratch that itch, We love Australia and are pretty keen to see as much of it as we can.
September 2008 my then fiancée and I first had that feeling that we had to get out and shake up our lives. We set of on an open ended trip to travel Australia. It lasted six months and due to insufficient funds and a car and campertrailer that probably wasn't cut out for the trip we wanted we came back probably a little unfulfilled.
Since then we have married, had children and bought a new house. When we got back it was always our plan to go again and reach the places we couldn't last time as well as revisit the places we loved. It has been a case of the stars lining up and realizing that we have to take this opportunity while we can that has led us to take the plunge with two young kids and go on this adventure.
If your like me you watch a bit of TV, I've started to really get into the Outdoors, fishing, adventure, travelling shows to gain some knowledge and get a feel of where and when to go places. These shows are a real inspiration seeing people going to some of the most beautiful places all on our doorstep and I want myself and my family to experience the beauty of this country and gain some memories that we will keep forever.
